WHAT IS A SYNTHETIC

The synthetic stone is a gemstones which is made 100 % by machinery in a rapid way. The reason why these stones aren't the same to their natural counterpart, is because they have different inclusions. This is a fact for synthetic diamond-stones, but also for other synthetic stones. Some gemstones - as the Alexandrite - don't have even a realistic counterpart synthetic stone, because their chemical compositions is too complexe to imitate.

ABOUT SYNTHETIC DIAMOND-STONES: GROWTH PATTERNS

Even if synthetics and natural diamonds have the same physical and chemical composition, there exist differences: The growth patterns are different. While it has taken millions of years for natural diamonds to grow, synthetic diamond-stones are grown in days or weeks. These different growth conditions make synthetic diamond-stones different in rough shape than the rough shape of natural diamonds.

SYNTHETICS VERSUS NATURAL DIAMONDS BECAUSE:

  • different inclusions
  • different growth patterns
  • the most common type (Ia) of natural diamonds do not exist as synthetic

SYNTHETIC DIAMOND-STONES VERSUS NATURAL DIAMONDS

Synthetic stones are only available in Type II (a & b) and in Type Ib. The Type Ia is inexistant as a synthetic STONE, and just because these diamonds are the most common natural diamonds. Yes synthetic stones are different from natural diamonds.

ABOUT SYNTHETIC DIAMOND-STONES

Different inclusions in synthetic diamonds. While the origin of natural diamonds comes from nature, during the diamond formation some natural inclusions could appear in the natural diamonds. In the synthetic diamonds more metallic inclusions (better know as are known. It is said that synthetic diamonds are treated several times to exclude these un-natural inclusions. A clear communication about these treatments has never been made by synthetic diamond manufacturers.

DID YOU KNOW...

That natural diamonds from type II are extremely rare on earth, but very common as synthetic diamond-stones. These diamonds doesn't have (a lot of) nitrogen in their composition.

HOW IS A SYNTHETIC DIAMOND-STONE ALSO NAMED

Several names are used, as lab-grown, man-made and even cultured to type synthetic diamond-stones. There is no international common agreement for the nomination of synthetics, only the word "natural" may not be used to identify a synthetic diamond-stone.

DID YOU KNOW...

That diamonds from Type Ia are natural and non synthetics are known from this type. These diamonds have more Nitrogen in their composition and are also known as Cape diamonds, named after the former diamond-rich region of the Cape Province in South Africa.
