That Napoleon Bonaparte reintroduced the fashion for men to wear diamonds. He wanted to restore the French Grandeur of Louis XIV. Many diamonds from the State Collections were reset in swords, crown and pins.

That the first women who was allowed to wear diamonds at the court, was Agnes Sorel the mistress of French King Charles VII. Even the queen was not allowed to wear diamonds!

The rich jewellery collection of the Royal Swedish Court has a link with the Emperial French Court of Napoleon. The fiirst wife of Napoleon I, Josephine de Beauharnais, heritated a very nice jewellery collection. After Josephine’s’ death, her son Eugène and daughter Hortense (son and daughter of the first marriage of Josephine)inherited the collection. The eldest daughter of Eugène married Crown Prince Oscar of Sweden and Norway.
